The vastness of the MAPMC in terms of size (property, size) and trading volumes proves a great security concern. To meet these challenges a security department was formulated. The important function of the security department is to safeguard the assets of MAPMC, and also controlling vehicular and people traffic in the market.

The main function of the Security Officer is to safeguard the assets of MAPMC. Security officers are deployed in three shifts at the market, market gates and at six checknakas for control of vehicles and people. Each shift consists of 8 hours' duty. Daily records of all the security staff about placement and shift is maintained in a register called Duty Register. It is the responsibility of the Security Officer and the Supervisor to handle the duties shift wise and write the details in duty register. The Security Officer prepares payment chart of the employees and forwards the details to Office Superintendent. The Office Superintendent in turn forwards the details to accounts department. The cheque is then sent to the security board by account departments of MAPMC.

Nearly 4000 to 5000 load-carrying vehicles are daily passing through the entry and exit gate. There are big trucks, small trucks, tempo, handcarts, small tempos, people carrying goods in fruits and vegetable market etc. The security officer controls the traffic of loaded and unloaded vehicles as well as the people inside the respective markets.

At the market gates the security people allow only those people to go outside who have Mumbai entry pass. At each checknaka guards/supervisors are present. In case of any doubt, the vehicle and the katta patti are checked. If the goods carried, are more than what is mentioned then fine is collected from them.
