Introduction :

Mumbai Agricultural Produce Marketing committee was constituted with the sole purpose of providing service to farmers and to provide them a platform for selling goods at prices profitable to them. For up to date, commodity-wise, grade-wise and date-wise price information, the farmers, buyers and information seekers rely on MAPMC. For this purpose, the Market Statistics department was set up. Collection of market prices from various sources and its dissemination to various outside agencies is the main task of this department. An Assistant Secretary heads this department. He is assisted by his staff.

The market price of commodities traded in all the markets is forwarded to this department on daily basis. The market office forwards reports containing details of minimum, maximum and average prices of all the commodities, grade wise. The Market Statistics department maintains these reports. The department generates the reports on daily, weekly and monthly basis. Another main function is to forward these reports daily to outside agencies like Mantralaya, Akashvani, Agrinet, Director of Marketing etc for their broadcast. The market statistics department also maintains records of daily arrival of vehicles in the respective markets. The details are forwarded to the EDP section for data entry.
